A National Appeal for the Filipino People
The 2010 elections are fast approaching and obviously, many aspirants to be in “service of the Filipino people” are now having their area hopping as part of their preparations—or maybe just to give people the hint that they will run. Barangay captains, mayors, governors, congressmen, senators, vice president and maybe even the PRESIDENT are now doing their stuffs for their bets to win or for them to win again for the same or other position. It looks like too early but for them it is indeed a time to set their selves into election mode. But what is too sad is that, they now seem to focus on their political career rather than thinking the best ways to serve the nation up to their very last time in service.
The upcoming elections are said to be another history in the making. It could change the country and so the world awaits. What matter is that there are still so many issues regarding the feasibility, efficiency and credibility of the automation. Issues on Charter Change hang backs because of the uncertain plan of the incumbents. And everything may reflect for our future and for the next generations!
And for that I am appealing for everybody to be part of the history because it’s our future. It’s our generation. And importantly because it is OUR COUNTRY! It is ours.
I am a member of Teddy Casino for Senator Movement that calls for all Filipinos to RECLAIM their power over their own fate, their rights over their country, and their sense of belonging. We believe that there is still hope for change in our country. We are that hope. We are that change. It is time for us citizens to assert our sovereignty and actively engage in nation-building. To right the wrongs. To uphold good over bad. To support clean, patriotic and competent leadership and reject the old politics of corruption and patronage.
And I am inviting everybody to join this movement! This movement is not only for Teddy Casino but a movement for CHANGE! It gives me hope for it makes me realize that “we” could still have something to do—that maybe we could still have someone who could somehow fulfill our aspirations for an alternative politics. What we just have to do is to reclaim the nations as ours—as a nation for the Filipino and take part in an election. Let us not be so naive as if it will not harm us or as if doesn’t matter anyway. But I understand why a lot of people choose not to participate seriously in the elections. Because they think that everything will just be the same and I also believe with that. But the point is that it is better to partake to the election rather than letting it be the same for you to have the chance to choose the lesser risk. Anyway, as other say, sige ‘wag kang magparehistro, sige ‘wag kang makialam pero sa oras na lalong naghirap ang mamamayang Pilipino, ay ‘wag na ‘wag kang magrereklamo. Another point is that we still have the responsibility to revive the “dilapidated” political systems we have! Let us not be unfair to the generations being betrayed by the few. Do not wait for the time that your son may ask you what you have than before and why they are suffering now. We have chance to do something good for our country. There are so many means on how we could be part of it. And now is the time!
For the upcoming elections, we have to register as voters. We have to know the people that aspire to be in the position. We really have to consider their general program of actions if it will really for the people and not just for the interest of the biggest few. We have to critically determine their stand on different issues. And remember, we should not be restricted to the traditional politicians; instead we should give chance to others and discover the things that he could do to “consolidate us” for the betterment of our country. Another thing is that, a good leader doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be academically good (as you define “academically good”). It is still his capability to honestly serve which is decisive for him to lead the nation. Minsan nga, hindi na maganda ang masyadong matalino dahil sa sobrang katalinuhan, hindi na nya alam kung paano maglingkod ng totoo at sobrang katalinuhan, alam na nya kung paano tayo lolokohin. Let’s learn from the past and the best example is now.
Then we have to cast and secure our vote. We have to make sure that there will be no more HELLO GARCI. We have to be sure behind the not trusted new automated system that our votes will be counted whatever it takes. NO PRE-IDENTIFIED FAILURE OF ELECTIONS should be declared (as if it is assumed). We could also volunteer to be poll watchers in our place. It is another thing you could do to protect your vote and the vote of the people. Let’s always remember that the present status of our electoral process is directly proportional to our democracy. In connection with this, we have to feel our obligations to restore democracy!
I am not hoping for any social change with whatever or whoever will be elected soon and it doesn’t mean that I am too pessimistic about my country; it’s just that I choose to face the truth that it will never be the decisive factor for any genuine reforms. Elections are still for the ruling class and not for the masses. It is still a battle of gold, goons and guns!
BUT AS I SAID, I PREFER TO BE PART OF THE “ELITE” ELECTIONS FOR ME TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO CHOOSE THE LESSER RISK FOR MY COUNTRY.
Be an active part of the 2010 National elections! Be part of the history. Be part of the CHANGE…KASI INYO ANG BAYAN! Kasi Atin ang Bayan!
